Challenge

Veeps faced three critical obstacles threatening their ability to deliver world-class live entertainment at scale. Running infrastructure across multiple clouds for 5+ applications with 500TB+ of data was driving costs up and increasing operational complexity. Their live streaming platform lacked the features needed to meet the demands of a global audience, and their architecture couldn’t handle rapid audience surges, scaling from 1K to 100K+ concurrent users in minutes while maintaining a reliable, real-time media pipeline..

Strategy and Solution

To deliver high-quality live concerts to fans at scale, nClouds migrated Veeps’ entire multi-cloud infrastructure to AWS and implemented a fully integrated AWS Elemental media pipeline. This gave Veeps a single, unified platform to ingest live streams from venues, transcode and package content in real time, and deliver it globally through CloudFront, all with the elasticity to handle massive, unpredictable audience spikes without manual intervention.

Proposed Solution and Architecture

To address Veeps’ streaming challenges, nClouds architected a fully integrated AWS Elemental media pipeline that handles every stage of live content delivery, from venue ingestion to the fan’s screen. The solution replaced a fragmented multi-cloud environment with a unified, elastic AWS infrastructure capable of handling unpredictable audience surges without manual intervention.

The architecture follows a linear media flow: live video is captured at the venue and transmitted securely to the cloud via MediaConnect, processed and transcoded into multiple formats by MediaLive and MediaConvert, packaged for adaptive streaming by MediaPackage, and delivered globally at low latency through CloudFront. This end-to-end pipeline ensures that whether 1,000 or 100,000+ fans tune in simultaneously, every viewer receives the same broadcast-quality 4K experience with Dolby audio, with no buffering, no downtime, and no compromise.

Key Functional Objectives

  • Cost Reduction Through Cloud Consolidation Consolidate and migrate the infrastructure of 5+ applications with 500TB+ of data from multiple clouds onto AWS, reducing operational overhead and eliminating the cost inefficiencies of a multi-cloud environment.
  • Live Streaming Feature Parity and Enhancement Build a fully featured live streaming platform capable of delivering 4K video and Dolby audio with the reliability and performance that a global entertainment audience expects.
  • Elastic Scaling for Massive Audience Surges Architect a media pipeline capable of scaling from 1,000 to 100,000+ concurrent users in minutes without degradation in stream quality or viewer experience.
  • Reliable Real-Time Media Pipeline Establish a secure, low-latency media pipeline using AWS Elemental services to ingest, process, package, and deliver live content from venue to viewer with redundancy and uptime built in.

Core Components

  • AWS CloudFront – A global content delivery network (CDN) that accelerates online video streaming. CloudFront securely caches and delivers video content from AWS Elemental to end users, reducing latency and ensuring a smooth viewing experience. It scales dynamically and integrates seamlessly with other AWS services for optimized video delivery.
  • AWS Elemental MediaConnect – Used to transmit live streams from the venue to the cloud for further processing. Enables buffering of live feeds and supports protocols such as SRT, while allowing N+1 transcoders for greater redundancy. Provides a secure, reliable, and low-latency connection between the concert venue and the cloud.
  • AWS Elemental MediaConvert– Transcodes live streams received from MediaLive into multiple output formats for delivery across different devices and platforms. Harvest jobs are also enabled to ingest content into Veeps’ Video on Demand (VOD) service.
  • AWS Elemental MediaPackage– Packages and delivers live streams to viewers through a single endpoint that integrates seamlessly into Veeps’ platform, simplifying delivery and improving reliability.

Results + Benefits

By migrating to AWS and implementing AWS Elemental services, Veeps significantly improved the quality, reliability, and reach of its live concert streams, delivering a premium viewing experience at scale.

Key Benefits

  • $750K+ saved annually by consolidating from multiple clouds to AWS
  •  Delivered 4K video and Dolby audio for an immersive fan experience
  • Improved reliability and uptime across all live event streams
  • Reduced interruptions and playback issues
  • Elastic scaling from 1K to 100K+ concurrent users in minutes

TCO Highlights:

By consolidating 5+ applications and 500TB+ of data from multiple cloud providers onto a single AWS infrastructure, Veeps eliminated the cost and complexity of managing a fragmented multi-cloud environment. The pay-for-what-you-use elasticity of AWS Elemental and CloudFront ensured Veeps only consumed and paid for compute and delivery capacity when live events demanded it, driving over $750K in annual savings.

Conclusion

Through a strategic migration to AWS and the implementation of a fully integrated AWS Elemental media pipeline, Veeps transformed its ability to deliver live entertainment to millions of fans worldwide. By consolidating onto AWS, Veeps unlocked significant cost savings, eliminated operational complexity, and built a platform capable of delivering broadcast-quality streaming at any scale. With AWS, Veeps continues to set the standard for live entertainment, connecting artists and fans through world-class digital experiences.
