Merk's Financial Data Journey with Airflow & Django
Merk Investments provides investment advice on liquid global markets, including domestic and international equities, fixed income, commodities, and currencies. Merk also offers advisory services to high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and institutional clients.
Merk Investments faced a complex data management dilemma, navigating through the intricacies of consolidating information from diverse sources such as banks, trader platforms, stock exchanges, and various data providers. The challenge lay in efficiently processing this disparate data to empower their analysts with timely, accurate insights for informed decision-making in the dynamic landscape of global financial markets. The need for a seamless and scalable solution was evident to enhance the overall efficiency of their investment operations.
To overcome Merk Investments' data processing challenges, we designed a solution combining Apache Airflow for orchestrating data pipelines and a Django web application for streamlined data processing and display. Apache Airflow serves as the backbone for orchestrating and automating data workflows. Utilizes directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) to define and manage the sequence of tasks for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL).
